Polityka, Nacjonalizm, Tożsamość: Przypadek Komunistycznej Partii Polski i Komunistycznej Partii Zachodniej Ukrainy w czasach międzywojennych

Ta praca skupi się nad stosunkach między Komunistyczną Partią Polski (KPP) i Komunistyczną Partią Zachodniej Ukrainy (KPZU) w czasach międzywojennych. Używając teorię Giovaniego Leviego o mikrohistorii, oprócz tradycyjnej historiografii, potrafię pokazać jak obie partie działały i pokazują inną historię tych czasach, która różni się od klasycznej historię. Ta praca koncentruje się na dwóch istotnych wydarzeniach: „Błąd majowy” i „Sprawa Szumskiego”, od 1926 – 1928 roku. Mikrohistoria tych dwóch partii potrafi akcentować problemy między komunistami i między grupami komunistycznymi aby lepiej opisać wpływy polityczne, nacjonalistyczne, i komunistyczne które dotykały te dwie partie. W większym kontekście, mikrohistoria dwóch partii też pogłębią nasze zrozumienia stanowiska KPP i KPZU w międzynarodowym społeczeństwie komunistycznym i także w międzynarodowej polityce w czaszach międzywojennych.

This thesis seeks to explore the relationship between the Communist Party of Poland and the Communist Party of Western Ukraine during the Second Polish Republic. Functioning both as illegal entities within the newly created Polish state, these parties struggled with legitimacy and power during the delicate and contentious interwar time period. Rather than focusing on a narrative, or classical historical approach, this text uses Giovanni Levi’s concept of microhistory in order to dissect various elements of the parties’ relationship. It focuses specifically on two climactic events in the histories of these parties, namely the “May Error” and the Shumskyi Affair, taking place between 1926 and 1928. Both of these events highlight the difficulties each party faced in dealing with issues such as nationalism, communism, and identity. Although in principle communists adhered to a common communist ideology, one that overcame nationalist egoisms, it did not preclude these individuals from battling and struggling with their identity and nationalistic tendencies. Through a microhistorical lens we witness the story of two parties that struggled for legitimacy both within their legal state and in the eyes of the international communist community. The “May Error” and Shumskyi Affair highlight these issues on a personal and group level, allowing us to better understand and contextualize the history during this intricate time period.
