Teenager with Duchenne dystrophy health problems in a home environment - a case study

Choroby genetyczne są rzadkością, jednak w skali globalnej dotyczą one milionów. Ponadto zdecydowana większość z nich nadal pozostaje zaliczana do chorób nieuleczalnych. Opieka nad chorymi, cierpiącymi na choroby genetyczne, stanowi wyzwanie dla współczesnej medycyny, dlatego też tematem niniejszej pracy jest opieka nad pacjentem z tą jednostką chorobową. Celem pracy było objęcie opieką pielęgniarską nastolatka cierpiącego na dystrofię mięśniową Duchenne’a przebywającego w środowisku domowym. We wstępie pracy, na podstawie analizy piśmiennictwa, został przedstawiony kliniczny aspekt dystrofii mięśniowej Duchenne’a, wpływ choroby genetycznej na rozwój nastolatka przez pryzmat biologiczny, psychoemocjonalnyi społeczny oraz postawy rodziny chorego wobec nieuleczalnej choroby genetycznej, którą zdiagnozowano u dziecka. Metodologia badań uwzględnia sposób ich przeprowadzenia oraz metody użyte w celu zgromadzenia danych na temat nastolatka z dystrofią mięśniową Duchenne’a przebywającego w środowisku domowym. Główną część pracy stanowi ocena stanu bio - psycho - społecznego nastolatka, wraz z przedstawieniem diagnoz oraz zaplanowanych interwencji pielęgniarskich mających na celu wyeliminowanie problemów zdrowotnych. Została także przedstawiona ocena uzyskanych efektów opieki.

Genetic diseases are rare, but they affect millions of people on a global scale. Furthermore, the vast majority of them remain classified as incurable diseases. Taking care of the sick, who is suffering because of genetic disease, is a challenge for modern medicine, which is why the subject of this thesis is the proper care of a patient with this type of disorder. The goal of the thesis was to provide nursing care for a teenager suffering from Duchenne muscular dystrophy staying in a home environment. In the introduction of the study, based on the analysis of the literature, has been presented the clinical aspect of Duchenne muscular dystrophy, the impact of genetic disease on teen development through the biological, psychoemotional and social point of view and the family's attitude towards an incurable genetic disorder diagnosed in a child. The research methodology takes into account the way they are carried out and the methods used to collect data on a teenager with Duchenne muscular dystrophic residing in the home environment. The main part of the work is the assessment of the teenager's bio-psycho-social state, along with the presentation of diagnoses and planned nursing interventions intended to eliminate health problems. The assessment of the obtained effects of care was also presented.
