The prospects of Poland joining the eurozone

Praca poświęcona jest perspektywom przystąpienia Polski do strefy euro. Przedstawiono zarys historii powstania i podstawy prawne funkcjonowania Unii Gospodarczej i Walutowej oraz strefy euro. W pracy omówiono także reformę strefy euro w latach 2012-2025. Oznacza to, że przybliżono perspektywy przyjęcia euro przez Polskę w dobie trwającej i niezakończonej reformy tej strefy. Co więcej, praca zawiera najbardziej aktualne wydarzenia i formułuje wnioski na ich podstawie, mowa o pandemii Covid-19, wojnie rosyjsko-ukraińskiej i ich wpływowi na gospodarki państw członkowskich Unii Europejskiej. Niniejszą pracę magisterską wzbogacają także rozdziały poświęcone szansom i zagrożeniom, jakie płyną z faktu potencjalnego przystąpienia Polski do strefy euro. W pracy rozważano takie kwestie jak wpływ koronawirusa na strefę euro czy stopień wypełnienia kryteriów konwergencji przez Polskę. Teza, jaką starano się w pracy udowodnić brzmi, iż w najbliższych latach perspektywa przystąpienia Polski do strefy euro jest nierealna.

The subject of this thesis are prospects of Poland joining the eurozone. The work presents the outline of the history of the establishment and the legal basis of the functioning of the Economic and Monetary Union as well as the euro area. The paper also discusses the reform of the eurozone in 2012-2025. This means that the outlook for Poland's euro adoption in the era of this zone's ongoing and unfinished reform has been presented. Moreover, the work contains the most recent events and draws conclusions based on them, it is about the Covid-19 pandemic, the Russian-Ukrainian war, and their impact on the economies of the European Union Member States. This master's thesis is also enriched by chapters on opportunities and threats related to the potential accession of Poland to the euro area. The study considered such issues as the impact of the coronavirus on the eurozone or the degree of fulfillment of the convergence criteria by Poland. The thesis aims to prove that in the coming years, the prospect of Poland joining the eurozone is unrealistic.
