Dorothea Tanning: a rebellious artist. An attempt at psychobiography.

W pracy podjęta została próba psychologicznej analizy życia artystki Dorothei Tanning. Przeprowadzona została na podstawie biograficznych wydarzeń, a także różnorodnej aktywności twórczej, towarzyszącej jej osobie na przestrzeni całego życia. Artystka najczęściej określana jest jako surrealistka, niemniej jej sztuka wykroczyła daleko poza ramy kierunku popularnego w pierwszej połowie XX. wieku. Dorothea Tanning na przestrzeni 101 lat malowała, pisała oraz rzeźbiła. Jej twórczość w miarę rozwoju stawała się coraz bardziej swobodna i późniejsze dzieła malarskie mają w dużej mierze charakter bliższy abstrakcjonizmowi. W życiu prywatnym Dorothea Tanning związała się z Maxem Ernstem, z którym spędziła ponad 30 lat, do jego śmierci. Praca ma na celu unaocznienie motywów wiodących w życiu artystki, a także jej ukrytej osobowości.

In the following work an attempt of psychological analysis was undertaken, in order to reveal the artist Dorothea Tanning. It was carried out on the basis of biographical events, as well as various creative activities accompanying her throughout her life. The artist is most often described as a surrealist, but her art went far beyond the popular trend in the first half of the 20th century. Dorothea Tanning had painted, written and even sculpted over the course of 101 years. Over the years, her work has become more and more free, and her later paintings are to a large extent closer to abstract art. In private life, Dorothea Tanning got into relationship with Max Ernst, with whom she spent over 30 years, until his death. This work aims to illustrate the leading motives in the artist's life, as well as her hidden personality.
