The Elements of Darwinism in the "Anielka" by Bolesław Prus

Celem niniejszej pracy jest unaocznienie wpływu koncepcji darwinowskich na twórczość literacką Bolesława Prusa na przykładzie sytuacji ówczesnego państwa polskiego (darwinizm społeczny) oraz na podstawie kilku bohaterów z "Anielki", przy szczególnym uwzględnieniu postaw głównej postaci, ziemiaństwa polskiego, które są w niej prezentowane (darwinizm biologiczny). W powieści nie znajdziemy wielu bezpośrednich nawiązań do darwinizmu biologicznego, fizjonomiki i patognomiki, ich wyraźnych zarysów. Odnajdujemy je niejako w sposób pośredni, poprzez sposób „malowania” postaci pojawiających się w Anielce.

The aim of this study is to demonstrate the effect of the concept of Darwinian literary creation by Boleslaw Prus using the situation of the then Polish state (social Darwinism). What is more, on the basis of a few characters from the "Anielka", with particular attention to the attitudes of the main character, Polish landowners, who are presented in that story (Darwinism biological). In the novel it is not possible to find many direct references to Darwinism biological physiognomy and pathognomy, their clear outlines. They can be found indirectly, by the way of "painting" characters which appeared in the Anielka.
