Methods of grammar teaching in foreign language class

W niniejszej pracy magisterskiej została podjęta próba przedstawienia procesu nauczania gramatyki na lekcjach języka obcego, metod nauczania oraz czynników wpływających na wybór odpowiedniej metody pracy z uczniami. W krótkim zarysie została ujęta teoria poszczególnych zagadnień, będących tematem pracy. Praca składa się z trzech rozdziałów. W pierwszej części wyjaśniono termin „gramatyka” wraz z podziałem na gramatykę z zakresu lingwistyki oraz pedagogiki, przy szczególnym poświęceniu uwagi gramatyce pedagogicznej. W tej części pracy opisana została również rola gramatyki w procesie nauczania języka obcego. Druga część pracy przedstawia czynniki mające wpływ na wybór oraz dopasowanie odpowiedniej metody nauczania do grupy uczniów oraz przykładowe zadanie gramatyczne, które byłyby dla poszczególnych grup najbardziej odpowiednie. W części tej odwołano się również do dedukcyjnego oraz indukcyjnego sposobu nauczania gramatyki oraz przedstawiono techniki nauczania gramatyki w poszczególnych fazach lekcji języka obcego. Ostatnia część została poświęcona przedstawieniu metod nauczania języków obcych ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem gramatyki oraz przykładowymi ćwiczeniami gramatycznymi. Opisane zostały następujące metody nauczania: gramatyczno-tłumaczeniowa, metoda bezpośrednia, metoda audiolingualna i audiowizualna, metoda komunikatywna. Na zakończenie tej części pracy przedstawione zostały wnioski.

The aim of the present thesis is to discuss the grammar teaching process in foreign language classroom, the methods of teaching and the factors influencing the choice of a given method to be used with a particular group of students. Furthermore, a short presentation of the theoretical background of the questions discussed is included. The thesis consists of three chapters, the first two being a presentation of theory, and the third one presenting analytical research. Firstly, grammar as a concept is explained and the linguistic and pedagogical approaches to grammar are discussed, with a special emphasis on the concept of pedagogical grammar. In this part of the thesis the role of grammar in foreign language teaching process is analysed. The second part presents grammar teaching techniques at different stages of a language lesson. It also presents model grammar exercises on a given grammar issue and analyses their suitability for different student groups. Moreover the deductive and inductive grammar teaching methods. Furthermore, in this part some factors influencing the choice of a given teaching method with a specific group of students are discussed. The third chapter is devoted to analysis of various foreign language teaching methods with a special emphasis on grammar and example grammar exercises. Following methods are discussed: grammar-translation method, direct method, audiolingual and audiovisual methods, and communicative method.

In dieser Arbeit wurden der Prozess der Grammatikvermittlung im Fremdsprachenunterricht, die Lehrmethoden und die Faktoren, die die Wahl der entsprechenden Methoden der Arbeit mit den Schülern beeinflussen, präsentiert. Einzelne Begriffe, die Gegenstand der Arbeit sind, wurden definiert und erklärt. Die Arbeit besteht aus drei Kapiteln. Der erste Teil enthält eine Erklärung des Begriffs „Grammatik”, der auch in Bezug auf linguistische und didaktische Ebene der Sprache besprochen wird. Besondere Aufmerksamkeit wurde der pädagogischen Grammatik gewidmet. In diesem Teil der Arbeit wurde die Rolle der Grammatik im Fremdsprachenunterricht beschrieben. Der zweite Teil der Arbeit zeigt die Faktoren, die die Auswahl der entsprechenden Lehrmethode für einzelne Gruppen der Schüler beeinflussen und Beispiele für grammatische Übungen, die für einzelne Gruppen anpassen würde. In dem Teil der Arbeit wurden auch das deduktive und das induktive Verfahren der Grammatikvermittlung beschrieben. Der Teil stellt auch die Techniken der Grammatikvermittlung in einzelnen Phasen des Fremdsprachenunterricht vor.Der dritte Teil der Arbeit wurde der Darstellung der Methoden der Grammatikvermittlung gewidmet. Es wurden folgende Lehrmethoden beschrieben: Grammatik-Übersetzungs-Methode, direkte Methode, audiolinguale und audiovisuelle Methode, kommunikative Methode. Zu jeder beschriebenen Methode wurden Beispiele für grammatische Übungen angegeben.
