Cykl nowel „Mózgi” Gottfrieda Benna przedstawia rozwój kryzysu psychicznego u młodego lekarza Rönnego. Dotychczasowa interpretacja tych nowel wykazywała silną tendencję do patologizacji ukazanych w tekście symptomów psychologicznego kryzysu i redukowała je do sfabularyzowanej biografii autora. Celem tej pracy jest wykazanie, że nowele „Mózgi” nie powinny być rozpatrywane jako historia medyczna konkretnego przypadku, lecz jako teksty poetyckie, traktujące o zjawisku wyobcowania przykładowej jednostki i odrzuceniu przez nią norm społecznych. W tym celu zostaje przedstawiona geneza powstania nowel, z uwzględnieniem biografii autora, jak również wykorzystanie motywu szaleństwa w literaturze ekspresjonistycznej. Analiza tekstów dotyczy opisu stanu psychicznego bohatera i koncentruje się na doświadczeniu depersonalizacji i utraty poczucia rzeczywistości. Omówiona zostaje również opresyjna rola społeczeństwa w procesie kształtowania tożsamości.

Gottfried Benn’s novella series "Brains" portrays the psychological crisis development of a young physician, Rönne. The current interpretation of the stories shows a strong tendency toward the pathologisation of mental crisis symptoms and reduces the texts to the author’s literary autobiography.The aim of this paper is to argue that the short stories should not be interpreted as medical history of an individual case but as poetic texts which deal with the alienation of an exemplary individual from societal values and norms. The paper gives a description of the texts’ origins in consideration of the author’s biography and describes the perception of insanity in expressionism. The text analysis refers to the examination of the protagonist’s psychological condition with regards to depersonalization and striving for continuous reinforcement. The final part reflects the texts’ cultural-critical aspect.

Der Novellen-Zyklus „Gehirne“ Gottfried Benns stellt die Entwicklung der psychischen Krise eines jungen Arztes Rönne dar. Die bisherige Deutung der Texte wies eine starke Tendenz der Pathologisierung der gezeigten Symptome der psychischen Schwäche aus und reduzierte sie auf eine literarisierte Autobiographie des Autors. Das Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, zu beweisen, dass die Rönne-Novellen nicht als eine Krankengeschichte eines Einzelfalls zu deuten sind, sondern als poetische Texte, die die Entfremdung eines exemplarischen Individuums von den gesellschaftlichen Normen thematisieren. Zu diesem Zweck wird die Entstehungsgeschichte der Novellen mit der Berücksichtigung der Biographie des Autors dargestellt sowie die Wahrnehmung des Wahnsinns im Expressionismus geschildert. Die Textanalyse bezieht sich auf die Untersuchung des psychischen Zustands des Protagonisten in Betracht der Depersonalisationserfahrung und des Strebens nach der Erlangung einer kontinuierlichen Psychologie. Zuletzt wird der kulturkritische Aspekt der Novellen analysiert.
