The Lizzie Bennet Diaries is an innovative, modernized adaptation of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice in the form of a video blog. The creators of the series employed various social media platforms to tell an immersive story and encourage the viewers to actively participate in the fictional world. The main aim of the thesis is to analyze The Lizzie Bennet Diaries as a new media adaptation of the beloved classic. Therefore, in the first chapter the project is discussed in the context of the chosen issues of the theory of adaptation and transmedia storytelling. Then the phenomenon of intertextuality is briefly presented and some examples of it from the series are provided. The second chapter examines such elements of the story as narration, time and space, characters and plot in comparison to the Austen's novel, as well as explores the role of the accompanying video blog series and the follow-up book The Secret Diary of Lizzie Bennet. The work concludes with a discussion about some changes that resulted from transferring the 19th-century tale to our times.
