Zebu in India: worship of cattle in a historical perspective

Celem niniejszej pracy jest omówienie rozwoju kultu zebu na terenach północnych Indii,od początków osadnictwa do okresu poprzedzającego najazdy muzułmańskie.Pierwszy rozdział skupia się na roli bydła we wczesnych fazach osadnictwa na BliskimWschodzie. Kolejny zawiera analizę wczesnych kultur rolniczych na północnych terenachPółwyspu Indyjskiego oraz cywilizacji Indusu. Trzeci porusza tematykę roli bydła w kulturzearyjskiej i informacji zawartych na ten temat w Wedach. Czwarty stanowi omówienieproblematyki zebu w okresie wyłaniania się nowych idei filozoficznych: buddyzmu idżinizmu, a także koncepcji ahinsy. Został tu również poruszony związek kultu Kriszny zbydłem, a w szczególności z krową.

The aim of this work is to discuss the development of zebu cult in northern India, fromthe beginning of settlement to the period preceding Muslim raids.The first chapter focuses on the role of cattle in the early stages of settlement in theMiddle East. The next one contains an analysis of early agricultural cultures in the northernareas of the Indian Peninsula and the Indus civilization. The third discusses the role of cattlein Aryan culture and information on this subject in the Vedas. The fourth is a discussion ofzebu problems during the emergence of new philosophical ideas: Buddhism and Jainism, aswell as the concept of ahinsa. The relationship between the cult of Krishna and cattle, andespecially with the cow, has also been raised here.
