From fear to disgust. Horror in polish literature – S. Grabiński, Ł. Orbitowski, D. Kain

Tematem niniejszej pracy jest groza w literaturze polskiej. Materiałem badawczym jest wybrana twórczość trzech autorów: Stefana Grabińskiego, Łukasza Orbitowskiego i Dawida Kaina. W pierwszym rozdziale zajmuję się definicjami grozy i horroru, by w oparciu o teorie Noela Carrolla i Stephena Kinga utworzyć jedną spójną definicję gatunku, którą będę stosował w pracy. Rozdział drugi poświęcony jest twórczości Stefana Grabińskiego. Przedstawiam i analizuję metody przy użyciu których wywołuje w czytelniku grozę na podstawie tomu opowiadań zatytułowanego "Demon ruchu". W trzecim rozdziale zajmuję się twórczością Łukasza Orbitowskiego, i w oparciu o trzy książki przedstawiam jego techniki straszenia czytelników. Ostatni, czwarty rozdział skupia się na prekursorze gatunku bizarro fiction w Polsce - Dawidzie Kainie. Podobnie jak w przypadku Orbitowskiego na podstawie trzech jego dzieł przedstawiam jakimi posługuje się metodami. W podsumowaniu wskazuję różnice pomiędzy tymi trzema odmiennymi podejściami do literatury grozy a także na podstawie przedstawionych wcześniej argumentów ukazuję że horror nie musi być gorszym i mniej wartościowym gatunkiem.

The theme of this paper is horror in Polish literature. The research material is selected works of three authors: Stefan Grabiński, Łukasz Orbitowski and Dawid Kain. In the first chapter I am presenting the definitions of terror and horror and basing on theories of Noel Carroll and Stephen King I am creating a coherent definition of the genre that I will use in the paper. The second chapter is devoted to the works of Stefan Grabiński. I am presenting and analyzing the methods by which he raises horror in the reader, basing on the volume of short stories entitled "Demon ruchu". In the third chapter I am talking about the work of Łukasz Orbitowski, and basing on three books I am presenting the techniques he is using to scare the readers. The last, fourth chapter focuses on precursor of the bizarro fiction genre in Poland - Dawid Kain. As in the case Orbitowski on the basis of three of his works I am presenting the methods he is using. In conclusion I am pointing out the differences between these three different approaches to horror literature and also on the basis of earlier arguments, I am showing that the horror does not need to be outdone and less valuable genre.
