Presences. The functions and role of the names of friends based on selected poems by Allen Ginsberg from Collected Poems 1947-1980

Poezja Allena Ginsberga to poezja intertekstualna, tworząca siatkę wzajemnych wewnętrznych i zewnętrznych powiązań, nie tylko na poziomie tradycji literackich, ale przejawiającą się również w płynnych wspomnieniach konkretnych postaci z imienia i nazwiska. Przy pomocy zestawienia liczbowego, ukazuję częstotliwość pojawiania się postaci przyjaciół w zbiorze „Collected Poems 1947-1980”. Na podstawie ról jakie pełnią te nazwiska, dokonałam podziału na trzy następujące podgrupy: wiersze, w których osoba poety-przyjaciela utożsamiona jest z figurą autorytetu lub istnieje w przestrzeni intertekstualnej dzieła; wiersze, w których poeci-przyjaciele widnieją w tekście jako synonimy codzienności; studium (nie)obecności Neala Cassady’ego i Jacka Kerouaca. W części interpretacyjnej uzasadniam swoją tezę na podstawie analizy wybranych wierszy. Celem mojej pracy jest wskazanie wielowymiarowości i wieloaspektowości poezji Allena Ginsberga, dzięki czemu w chaosie i tłumie nazwisk, odnajdzie się stałe konstrukcje oraz działania świadomego poety.

Allen Ginsberg's poetry is intertextual, creating a network of mutual internal and external connections, not only at the level of literary traditions but also manifesting in fluid memories of specific individuals by name. Using numerical tabulation, I show the frequency of appearances of friends in the collection "Collected Poems 1947-1980." Based on the roles these names play, I have divided them into three subgroups: poems in which the poet-friend is identified with a figure of authority or exists in the intertextual space of the work; poems in which poet-friends appear in the text as synonyms of everyday life; and a study of the (non)presence of Neal Cassady and Jack Kerouac. In the interpretative part, I justify my thesis based on the analysis of selected poems. The aim of my work is to demonstrate the multidimensionality and multifaceted nature of Allen Ginsberg's poetry, showing that amidst the chaos and multitude of names, there are stable constructions and actions of a self-aware poet.
