The contemporary market of antiquarian books in Cracow

Celem pracy jest analiza wtórnego rynku książki w Krakowie. W jego ramach wyodrębniono i opisano różne rodzaje antykwariatów, które stanowią główny podmiot handlu książką antykwaryczną. Przedstawiono historię i funkcje antykwariatów, asortyment antykwaryczny i formy jego obrotu. Zwrócono uwagę na różne społeczne i ekonomiczne uwarunkowania prowadzenia handlu książką dawną i używaną. Opisano aukcje antykwaryczne, ich istotę, przebieg, podstawy prawne i funkcje. W ramach badań własnych dokonano analizy wyników pięciu wybranych aukcji książek przeprowadzonych przez antykwariat Rara Avis w latach 2016-2020. Scharakteryzowano działalność trzech naukowych antykwariatów krakowskich: Rara Avis, Antykwariatu Wójtowicz oraz Krakowskiego Antykwariatu Naukowego wykazując, że Kraków jest jednym z głównych ośrodków wtórnego rynku książki w Polsce.

The aim of the study is to analyze the secondary book market in Krakow. Within its framework, various types of antiquarian bookstores, which constitute the main subject of the antiquarian book trade, were distinguished, and described. The history and functions of antiquarian shops, the range of antiquities and forms of its turnover are presented. The attention was paid to various social and economic conditions of trading in old and used books. The antiquarian auctions, their essence, course, legal basis and functions are described. As part of the own research, the results of five selected book auctions conducted by the Rara Avis antique shop in 2016-2020 were analyzed. The activity of three scientific Krakow antiquities shops was characterized: Rara Avis, Wojtowicz and the Krakow Scientific Antiquarian Bookstore, showing that Krakow is one of the main centers of the secondary book market in Poland.
