Tematem pracy jest czytanie książek dzieciom i przez dzieci w młodszym wieku szkolnym. Praca ma na celu określenie przemian następujących w czytaniu książek dzieciom i przez dzieci w tym wieku. W rozdziale pierwszym, będącym częścią teoretyczną pracy przedstawiono znaczenie czytania książek dzieciom, podano definicje czytania, następnie wskazano zalety wspólnego czytania książek z dzieckiem, ponadto dokonano charakterystyki literatury dziecięcej, przedstawiono jej funkcje i zalety. Opisano również dotychczasowy stan badań nad czytelnictwem. Rozdział drugi stanowi część metodologiczną pracy. Przedstawiono tu założenia metodologiczne badań własnych. Określono przedmiot i cel badań, problematykę badawczą, oraz dokonano opisu zastosowanych metod i narzędzi badawczych. W rozdziale trzecim, będących częścią badawczą pracy zaprezentowano i omówiono wyniki przeprowadzonych badań
