The Image of Society in West Berlin - Based on the Novel "Herr Lehmann" by Sven Regener and the Film Adaptation by Leander Haußmann

Celem niniejszej pracy magisterskiej jest porównanie obrazu społeczeństwa Berlina Zachodniego w powieści Svena Regenera z 2001 r. zatytułowanej Herr Lehmann oraz jej filmowej adaptacji z 2003 r. pod tym samym tytułem w reżyserii Leandera Haußmanna. Analiza kontrastywna pokaże, jak wspomniany obraz społeczeństwa przedstawiony jest w książce i w filmie oraz jakie można wskazać podobieństwa i różnice w tym zakresie. Biorąc pod uwagę strukturę niniejszej pracy można wyróżnić dwie główne części: zagadnienia teoretyczne oraz analizę praktyczną. Pierwszy rozdział teoretyczny zawiera fragmenty historii Berlina po II wojnie światowej oraz opis ówczesnego życia społecznego. Bardzo ważnym tematem przewijającym się przez całą pracę jest historia podziału Niemiec oraz jego wpływ na pokolenia niemieckiej młodzieży. W tym kontekście na podstawie badań socjologicznych zostanie przedstawiona charakterystyka wybranych pokoleń młodzieży Berlina Zachodniego na przestrzeni 40 lat w powojennych niemczech.Ważnym elementem w tej części pracy jest również przedstawienie enklawowej topografii Berlina Zachodniego. W tej części pracy pojawia się także historia dzielnicy Kreuzberg, która zasługuje na bliższe przyjrzenie się ze względu na swoją specyfikę oraz fakt, że to właśnie tam rozgrywa się akcja analizowanej pracy. Ostatni rozdział teoretyczny koncentruje się na analizie filmu jako adaptacji. Przedstawione zostały rodzaje adaptacji literackich oraz metody analizy filmowej. Te zagadnienia stanowią następnie podstawę do praktycznej analizy korpusu. W części badawczej przedstawione i zestawione ze sobą zostaną fragmenty powieści oraz filmu, które będą analizowane w kontekście tematu niniejszej pracy. Jak wykazuje analiza, można wyodrębnić kilka cech charakterystycznych dla mieszkańców Kreuzberga. W kolejnych podrozdziałach zostaną przedstawione możliwe przyczyny takiego stanu rzeczy.

The aim of this thesis is to compare the image of West Berlin society in Sven Regener's 2001 novel Herr Lehmann and its 2003 film adaptation of the same title directed by Leander Haußmann. A contrastive analysis will show how the mentioned picture of society is presented in the book and in the film and which similarities and differences can be identified. Considering the structure of this thesis, two main parts can be distinguished: theoretical issues and practical analysis. The first theoretical chapter contains excerpts from the history of Berlin after World War II and a description of the social life at that time. A very important theme running through the whole work is the history of the division of Germany and its impact on generations of German youth. In this context, based on sociological research, a characterisation of selected generations of West Berlin youth over 40 years in post-war Germany will be presented.An important element in this part of the thesis is also the presentation of the enclave topography of West Berlin. This part of the thesis also includes the history of the Kreuzberg district, which deserves a closer look because of its specificity and the fact that it is where the action of the analysed work takes place. The final theoretical chapter focuses on the analysis of film as adaptation. Types of literary adaptations and methods of film analysis are presented. These issues then form the basis for the practical analysis of the corpus. In the research section, extracts from the novel and the film will be presented and juxtaposed, which will be analysed in the context of the topic of this thesis. As the analysis shows, several characteristics of Kreuzberg residents can be identified. In the following subsections, possible reasons for this will be presented.

Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, das Bild der Westberliner Gesellschaft in Sven Regeners Roman "Herr Lehmann" von 2001 und der gleichnamigen Verfilmung von 2003 unter der Regie von Leander Haußmann zu vergleichen. Eine kontrastive Analyse wird zeigen, wie das erwähnte Gesellschaftsbild im Buch und im Film dargestellt wird und welche Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschiede sich erkennen lassen. Die Struktur dieser Arbeit lässt sich in zwei Hauptteile gliedern: theoretischer und praktischer Teil. Das erste theoretische Kapitel enthält Auszüge aus der Geschichte Berlins nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg und eine Beschreibung des gesellschaftlichen Lebens zu dieser Zeit. Ein sehr wichtiges Thema, das sich durch das gesamte Werk zieht, ist die Geschichte der deutschen Teilung und ihre Auswirkungen auf Generationen von deutschen Jugendlichen. In diesem Zusammenhang wird auf der Grundlage soziologischer Untersuchungen eine Charakterisierung ausgewählter Generationen von Westberliner Jugendlichen über 40 Jahre im Nachkriegsdeutschland vorgestellt.Ein wichtiges Element in diesem Teil der Arbeit ist auch die Darstellung der Enklavancharakter von West-Berlin. Dieser Teil der Arbeit befasst sich auch mit der Geschichte des Bezirks Kreuzberg, der aufgrund seiner Besonderheit und der Tatsache, dass die Handlung des untersuchten Werks dort stattfindet, eine nähere Betrachtung verdient. Das letzte theoretische Kapitel befasst sich mit der Analyse des Films als Adaption. Es werden Arten von Literaturverfilmungen und Methoden der Filmanalyse vorgestellt. Diese Fragen bilden dann die Grundlage für die praktische Analyse des Korpus. Im Forschungsteil werden Auszüge aus dem Roman und dem Film vorgestellt und einander gegenübergestellt, die im Zusammenhang mit dem Thema dieser Arbeit analysiert werden. Wie die Analyse zeigt, lassen sich mehrere Merkmale der Kreuzberger Bevölkerung feststellen. In den letzten Unterabschnitten werden die möglichen Gründe dafür dargelegt.
