The grotesque world in novel „The Cremator” by Ladislav Fuks

Niniejsza praca zajmuje się prezentacją groteskowego świata w powieści „Palacz Zwłok” Ladislava Fuksa.Praca podzielona jest na część teoretyczną i praktyczną. Pierwszy rozdział zawiera informacje odnoszące się do zagadnienia groteski. W tej części skupiono się przede wszystkim na pochodzeniu słowa, charakterystyce pojęcia , omówiono również główne funkcje groteski w literaturze. Do opracowania tej części wykorzystano prace teoretyków literatury, m.in Michała Główińskiego, Bernarda McElroya,Wolfganga Kaysera oraz Lee Byron Jenningsa. Część praktyczna podzielona została na dwa rozdziały. Pierwszy rozdział praktycznej części jest analizą najpopularniejszych groteskowych motywów – motywu maski, śmierci i szaleństwa. Drugi rozdział poświęcony został analizie języka powieści, skupiono się na językowej mistyfikacji, imionach-maskach oraz narracji. Omówione zostały metody, które pomogły autorowi w kreacji groteskowego świata. Groteska przedstawiona została jako środek obrazujący sytuację społeczną. Ukazano w jaki sposób, za jej pośrednictwem, autor poruszył istotne problemy, między innymi kwestię wpływu totalitarnych reżimów na psychikę człowieka.

The work focuses on the aesthetic term of grotesque in novel The Cremator, written by Ladislav Fuks. The thesis focuses on the grotesque forms by the interpretation of his book. The work is divided into a theoretical part and a practical part. The first chapter provides theoretical background, we reflected on the concept of grotesque. In that part we explain the origin of the word, its various definitions, we also discuss main functions and purposes of grotesque. The theoretical base of grotesque is based on  works by Michał Głowiński, Bernard McElroy, Wolfgang Kayser and Lee Byron Jennings.A practical part is diveded into two chapters. The first practical chapter is an analysis of main grotesque motives – mask, death and madness. We describe their functions and meanings. The second chapter brings an analysis of grotesque language and narrator. Each part approached that grotesque is a feature that reflect the society situation. We prove that the author provides a significant psychological impact through the grotesque. He also presented a serious problems of civilization, such as the downfall of humanity under the influence of nacism.
