Self-destructive behaviors, aggressive behaviors and personality dimensions as correlates of academic procrastination.

W niniejszej pracy podjęto próbę sprawdzenia założenia czy u źródeł prokrastynacji może leżeć autodestrukcja pośrednia, wybrane wymiary osobowościowe oraz wrogość. Ponadto sprawdzono związki pomiędzy zmiennymi niezależnymi. W badaniu wzięło udział 99 studentów kierunków artystycznych z całej Polski, którzy wypełnili cztery kwestionariusze: General Procrastination Scale (Lay, 1986), Chronic Self-Destructiveness Scale (CS-DS) (Kelley, 1985), EPQ-R(S) (Eysenck, 1985) i trzy skale z Nastroje i Humory (Buss, Durkee, 1957). Analiza otrzymanych wyników pozwoliła ustalić, że na występowanie prokrastynacji wpływa podwyższony neurotyzm oraz tendencja do postawy negatywistycznej i introwertyzmu. Do odkładania i opóźniania działań mają zmniejszoną tendencję badani, którzy bardzo dbają o aprobatę społeczną oraz - co zaskakujące, jednostki bardziej pośrednio autodestruktywne. Interesujące okazały się zależności między zmiennymi niezależnymi. Wyniki potwierdziły neopsychoanalityczną teorię o związku neurotyzmu z wrogością - podejrzliwością, negatywizmem i pośrednią agresją. Wykazano, że jednostki pośrednio autodestruktywne nie wykazują nastawień agresywnych, natomiast przejawiają nastawienia konformistyczne i bardzo dbają o to, jak są postrzegane w zwierciadle społecznym. Złożoność prokrastynacji powinna stanowić inspirację do prowadzenia dalszych pogłębionych badań nad ich genezą. Szczególnie w Polsce problematyka ta wciąż nie doczekała się należytego opracowania.

The following project attempts at examining the assumptions that procrastination is caused by indirect self-destructiveness, particular personality dimensions and hostility. In addition, the association between independent variables was checked. The investigated group consisted of 99 Art students from all over Poland. The participants were asked to complete the General Procrastination Scale (Lay, 1986), Chronic Self-Destructiveness Scale (CS-DS) (Kelley, 1985), EPQ-R(S) (Eysenck, 1985) and three scales choosen from The Buss-Durkee Inventory (1957). The analysis of the correlation results revealed that elevated neurotism, negativistic attitude and reduced extraversion were found to be associated with procrastination. The non-procrastinating students tend to care much more about social approval and conformism than the procrastinating ones. Very interesting results of the association between independent variables were found. The neo-psychoanalytical theory of mutual dependence between neuroticism and hostility was confirmed. Among students, higher levels of neuroticism have been associated with higher levels of suspicion, negativism and indirect aggression. On the other hand, indirectly self-destructive participants did not exhibit aggressive behavior, but showed conformist attitudes and strong care about how they are perceived in the social mirror. The complexity of procrastination and other dysfunctional phenomena and its consequences should inspire further studies on their genesis. Particularly in Poland, this issue still has still not been properly discussed.
