The urban backlash, or backward (urban) movements

W artykule poddaję analizie proces wyłaniania się specyficznego typu oddolnych ruchów społecznych w polskich miastach, które określam mianem (miejskich) ruchów wstecznych (backlash). Ruchy takie formują się w ramach reakcji na implementowanie progresywnych polityk miejskich. Zjawiska te możemy obserwować już od wielu lat w miastach globalnej północy, od niedawna stają się one widoczne także w Polsce. Artykuł podzielony jest na dwie części. W pierwszej analizuję globalny kontekst, który stwarza dogodne struktury możliwości dla formowania się ruchów wstecznych. W drugiej części natomiast, na podstawie badań własnych, analizowana jest kwestia miejskiego backlashu w polskich miastach.

In the article, the author analyzes the emergence of a specific type of grassroots social movement in Polish cities, which is defined as (urban) backlash social movements. Such social movements have been mobilized in cities of the global north for many years as a response to the implementation of progressive urban policies. Recently, there has also been such a mobilization in Polish cities. The article consists of two parts. In the first part, the author analyzes the global context, which creates the structural opportunity for the mobilization of backlash social movements. In the second part, he discusses the rise and development of (urban) backlash social movements in Poland. The conclusions presented in this part are based on the results of a research grant, “Miejskie ruchy społeczne w Polsce” (Urban Social Movements in Poland) supported by the Polish National Science Center.
