Pokolenia X, Y oraz Z stoją przed nowym, istotnym dla współczesnego świata wyzwaniem jakim jest kultura popularna. Poprzez wpływ popkultury, a zwłaszcza mass mediów zmienia się nie tylko sposób kreowania własnej tożsamości, ale również kształtowanie systemu wartości. W życiu współczesnej młodzieży nie dominują już wartości tradycyjne, tj. rodzina, wiara czy historia. W zamian za nie pojawia się coraz częściej szczęście, rozwój i satysfakcja z życia. Niezwykle ważne jest w budowaniu tożsamości przez młodzież podejście pedagogów oraz rodziców. Ich zadaniem powinno być przede wszystkim zaakceptowanie popkultury oraz wykorzystywanie jej w swojej pracy i codziennym życiu, aby mogli oni wspólnie uczestniczyć w życiu młodych ludzi.
