Niniejsza praca stanowi analizę noweli Théophile'a Gautiera "Omphale" (1834) pod kątem motywu erotyzmu i sztuki. Pierwszy rozdział skupia się na stylu wczesnej twórczości autora, do której utwór się zalicza, na założeniach fantastyki francuskiej XIX wieku oraz na estetyce i filozofii sztuki rokokowej. Drugi rozdział zawiera analizę treści noweli, a także charakterów głównych bohaterów i ich specyficznej relacji opartej na erotyce i pożądaniu. Badam w nim również odwołania do sztuki XVIII wieku, przede wszystkim rokoka, widoczne w malarskim stylu pisania Gautiera. Ostatni rozdział sytuuje "Omphale" na tle innych nowelami fantastycznych autora, w których występuje motyw „la morte amoureuse”. Badam również charakter parodystyczny "Omphale".

The present bachelor’s thesis analyses Théophile Gautier's short story 'Omphale' (1834) from the perspective of eroticism and art. The first chapter focuses on the style of the author’s early work, to which the piece belongs, and on the principles of the French fantastique of XIX century, as well as on the aesthetics and philosophy of Rococo art. In the second chapter, I undertake an analysis of the story’s content, as well as the main characters’ characteristics and their specific relationship based on eroticism and desire. I also examine the references to XVIII century art, primarily Rococo, evident in Gautier’s painterly writing style. The final chapter situates 'Omphale' within the context of the author’s other fantastic short stories dealing with the motif of “la morte amoureuse”. I also examine 'Omphale' ’s parodic nature.

Le présent mémoire vise à analyser la nouvelle « Omphale » de Théophile Gautier (1834), sous l’angle de l’érotisme et de l’art. Le premier chapitre se concentre sur le style des premières œuvres de l’auteur, auxquelles le récit appartient, sur les principes du fantastique du XIXe siècle et sur l’esthétique et la philosophie de l’art rococo. Dans le deuxième chapitre j’entreprends une analyse du contenu de la nouvelle, ainsi que des caractères des personnages principaux et de leur relation spécifique basée sur l’érotisme et le désir. J’étudie également les références à l’art du XVIIIe siècle, principalement au rococo, évidentes dans le style pictural de Gautier. Le dernier chapitre situe « Omphale » dans le contexte des autres nouvelles fantastiques de l’auteur, abordant le motif de « la morte amoureuse ». J’examine également la nature parodique d’« Omphale ».
