This thesis examines the representation of Silesian identity as presented by Muzeum Górnośląskie w Bytomiu and Muzeum Śląskie in Katowice. It examines the history of Upper Silesia as a region, with special attention paid to the specific construction and imposition of nationalism and national identity on the people of Upper Silesia. This study aims to see whether there is anything definitive that can be learned about what it means to be Silesian by examining the content of the aforementioned museums. The thesis contributes to the fields of European studies, specifically borderlands studies by examining the complexities of identity among peoples who have lived on the border of Poland and Germany and have been split between the two states. The structure includes an overview of Upper Silesian history, a discussion of the theory of constructivism, and an analysis of the content of Muzeum Górnośląskie w Bytomiu and Muzeum Śląskie.
