The faces of collaboration. Present awareness of the inhabitants of the Podhale region about the "Goralenvolk".

Obecnie zagadnienie współpracy grupy górali podhalańskich z okupantem niemieckim w ramach „Goralenvolku” wciąż wzbudza wiele emocji. Głównym celem niniejszej pracy było zbadanie współczesnej świadomości mieszkańców Podhala o „Goralenvolku” za pomocą przeprowadzonych badań, do których w tym celu wykorzystano ankietę elektroniczną. Dodatkowo badania zostały wsparte wywiadem z autorem książki „Goralenvolk. Historia Zdrady” Wojciechem Szatkowskim oraz własnymi doświadczeniami autora pracy. Wyniki badań dowiodły, że ponad połowa przebadanych mieszkańców Podhala wiedziała, że podczas okupacji niemieckiej na Podhalu rozwijała się inicjatywa zwana „Goralenvolk”. Niemniej jednak zaobserwowano małą świadomość problemu kolaboracji górali z Niemcami Hitlerowskimi wśród młodszych ankietowanych.

Nowadays, the issue of the cooperation of a group of Podhale gorals with the Nazi occupant within “Goralenvolk” still arouses significant controversy. The main aim of this paper was to examine present awareness of the inhabitants of the Podhale region about Goralenvolk. In addition, the research was supported by an interview with the author of “Goralenvolk. Historia Zdrady” book, Wojciechem Szatkowskim, and own experiences of the author of this thesis. The results of the research showed that more than half of Podhale residents examined in this paper know that during the German occupation of Podhale an initiative called “Goralenvolk” existed. Nevertheless, it can observed that there is little knowledge pertaining to Podhale’s gorals collaboration with Nazi Germany among the younger portion of the population included in this study.
