Specificities of the French language in Swiss Romandy

Niniejsza praca licencjacka poświęcona jest szwajcarskiemu wariantowi języka francuskiego. W rozdziale pierwszym omówiono specyficzną sytuację językową Szwajcarii oraz niektóre z warunkujących ją czynników, takich jak prawodawstwo czy struktura demograficzna, ze szczególnym naciskiem na frankofońską część kraju, szwajcarską Romandię. Następnie wyróżniono cechy fonetyczne, gramatyczne i leksykalne charakterystyczne dla języka francuskiego w tym regionie. Aby nakreślić obraz rzeczywistego użycia tych form językowych, przeprowadzono analizę fragmentów artykułów prasowych, dokumentów urzędowych oraz fragmentu dzieła literackiego.

This bachelor thesis deals with the variety of French spoken in the French-speaking part of Switzerland. The first chapter describes the linguistic situation of Switzerland, with a particular focus on Romandy, as well as its legislation and demographics. In the second chapter, the author aims to determine the specificities of Swiss French in terms of its grammar, vocabulary and phonetics. Lastly, some extracts of the articles from the local newspapers, state documents and fragment of the novel by a Swiss author are analysed in order to determine the extent to which this variety of French is used in day to day situations.

Le présent mémoire de licence porte sur la variante de la langue française parlée dans la partie francophone de la Suisse. Le premier chapitre se concentre sur la situation linguistique du pays, essentiellement de la Suisse romande, aussi que sur la législation et la démographie de la région. Dans le deuxième chapitre, on démontre quelques traits caractéristiques de la langue aux niveaux grammatical, phonétique et lexical. Suit l’analyse de cas : des fragments de la presse, des documents d’État parus en Suisse, du fragment d’une nouvelle d’une écrivaine suisse et du vocabulaire de la gastronomie.
