Historical conceptions of the universitas. Allan Bloom's critique of the contemporary university

The aim of my thesis is to show how the concept of the university developed through centuries, from the medieval universitas magistrorum et scholarium to French and German models. What is more, I'm striving to show the independent expansion and modifications of the American model. Finally I present a contemporary critical approach towards a modern higher education, led by a professor and a philosopher, Allan Bloom, in his renowned book, Closing of the American Mind, and in the other writings.

Celem niniejszej pracy jest przedstawienie historii rozwoju koncepcji uniwersytetu, od średniowiecznej universitas magistrorum et scholarium po model francuski i model niemiecki, oraz rozwijany i modyfikowany niezależnie od nich typ amerykański, wraz ze współczesną krytyką kondycji amerykańskiego szkolnictwa wyższego, podjętą przez wykładowcę akademickiego i filozofa polityki, Allana Blooma, w jego książce Umysł zamknięty i osobnych pismach.
