Ainu in Japanese Society since Edo Period

Tematem pracy jest wpływ ekspansji gospodarczej Japończyków na Hokkaido na życie oraz kulturę Ajnu. Praca najpierw wyjaśnia najistotniejsze pojęcia powiązane z problematyką etniczności. Następnie poruszony jest temat mniejszości w rejonie Azji Wschodniej. W kolejnych częściach pracy przedstawiona zostaje kultura oraz historia ajnuska. Fragment historyczna skupia się na zjawisku ekspansji gospodarczej Japończyków na Hokkaido od okresu Edo. Na końcu pracy poruszona jest kwestia obecnej sytuacji i statusu Ajnu w społeczeństwie japońskim w kontraście do innych mniejszości tego kraju.

The subject of this paper is the influence of the Japanese economic expansion on Hokkaido on Ainu life and culture. Firstly, the paper explains the most important terms connected to the issue of ethnicity. After that, the paper moves to the topic of the minorities found in the region of Eastern Asia. In the following parts, the paper focuses on the culture and history of the Ainu. The historical part focuses on the topic of Japanese economic expansion since the Edo period. In the last part, the paper presents the status and the contemporary situation of Ainu in Japanese society in comparison to other minorities that live in Japan.
