The images of the saints in The Golden Legend of Jacobus de Voragine and The Lives of the Saints of Piotr Skarga

Praca magisterska koncentruje się na wybranych wizerunkach świętych w ujęciu porównawczym. Jako literaturę główną wybrano Złotą legendę Jakuba de Voragine ( XIII.) oraz Żywoty świętych Piotra Skargi (XVIw.). W pierwszej części pracy wyjaśnione zostały podstawowe słowa zawarte w temacie- świętość/ święty, wizerunek, żywot oraz legenda hagiograficzna. Kolejna część dotyczy bardziej szczegółowej analizy wizerunków świętych. Święci pogrupowani zostali odpowiednio na męczenników i wyznawców. Pracę zamykają ogólne wnioski na temat zestawionych dzieł. Analiza została wzbogacona o kontekst historyczny oraz kulturowy. Do opracowania dołączony został aneks zawierający wybrane przedstawienia ikonograficzne, będące dopełnieniem materiału zawartego we właściwej części pracy.

This paper is focused on comparative conceptualization of the chosen images of the saints. The main source material is taken from „The Golden Legend” of Jacobus de Voragine (XIII century) and „The Lives of the Saints” of Piotr Skarga (XVI century). First part explains the basic terms from the topic, like holiness, saint, image or hagiographical legend. The next part is focused on detailed analysis of the certain saint's images. The saints were classified as the martyrs and the believers. In the end are overall conclusions about compared texts. The analysis contains also the historical and cultural context. There is also addendum, which contains chosen iconographical depictions – they are addition for the material in the main part of the paper.
