To have education or to be educated? The relation between education, reading and self-education

Niniejsza praca w swym założeniu jest próbą ukazania wykształcenia jako całożyciowego, nieustającego procesu. Za efekt końcowy ideału wykształcenia przyjmujemy ideał człowieczeństwa, będący uwieńczeniem świadomie prowadzonego procesu kształcenia. Celem dociekań będzie próba uzyskania odpowiedzi na pytanie dotyczące wartości kształcenia. Mieć wykształcenie czy być człowiekiem wykształconym? – stało się wiodącym zagadnieniem niniejszych rozważań. Pierwszy rozdział przedstawia charakterystykę kluczowych dla dydaktyki pojęć. Pełni rolę wprowadzenia, w którym od ogólnych terminów „uczenia się i „nauczania”, poprzez samokształcenie i czytelnictwo wyprowadzono wstępne wnioski. Książka staje się jedną z możliwości dochodzenia do ideału wykształcenia. Jako metoda pracy samokształceniowej dobitnie reprezentuje samodzielność podmiotu podejmującego się kształcenia. Drugi rozdział zawiera teoretyczne koncepcje wykształcenia trzech polskich myślicieli. Przedstawione idee staną się punktem odniesienia dla ostatniej części pracy, która przybiera formę badawczą. W ostatnim rozdziale podjęto próbę analizy i interpretacji odpowiedzi udzielonych przez uczestników badań. Na podstawie uzyskanych wniosków przedstawiono charakterystyczne tendencje współczesnego pojmowania wykształcenia. Badani w zależności od stosunku do samokształcenia oraz od jakości kształcenia, któremu się poddali, posiadali odmienne zdanie dotyczące kluczowego dla niniejszej pracy pojęcia. Dwa typy odpowiedzi stały się szczególnie zauważalne: utylitarność kształcenia oraz ideał człowieka wykształconego.

This work is an attempt to present education as a lifelong and ongoing process. We regard the ideal of humanity, which is the culmination of the deliberate education process, as the final result of the ideal of education. The aim of the analysis will be an attempt to answer the question about the value of education. To get an education or to be an educated man? This very question has become a key issue of these considerations. In the first section I present the characteristics of key teaching concepts. It serves as an introduction in which, after defining general terms such as "learning" and " teaching" going through self-education and reading, I came to preliminary conclusions. A book is one of the possibilities of pursuing the ideal of education. As a method of self-education it clearly represents the independence of the entity undertaking educational training. The second section provides the theoretical concepts of education by three Polish thinkers. Their ideas will become a reference point for the last part of the thesis presented in the form of a research work. In the last section I attempt at analyzing and interpreting the answers given by the research participants. On the basis of the findings I present the characteristic tendencies that occur in the modern understanding of education. The respondents had different views on the key concept of this study. Their opinions varied depending on their attitude to self-education and to the quality of education they subjected to. Two types of responses have become particularly noticeable: utilitarianism of education and the ideal of an educated man.
