The speech development of hearing child deaf parent's - the meaning of specific linguistic environment for language formation and development

Niniejsza praca magisterska odnosi się do problematyki językowego funkcjonowania rodziny CODA (Child of Deaf Adults). W związku z tym przedmiotem badań był praktykowany sposób komunikacji słyszącego dziecka i jego niesłyszącej matki. Przegląd literatury omawianej materii dowodzi, że istnieje wyraźna luka badawcza w zakresie wskazanego zagadnienia. Z uwagi na ten fakt, podjęto próbę eksploracji znaczenia specyficznych uwarunkowań dla kształtowania i rozwoju języka dziecka. W celu zgromadzenia danych wykorzystano metodę etnografii komunikacji oraz przeprowadzono diagnozę kompetencji językowej uczestników. Treść poszczególnych rozdziałów jest ściśle skorelowana z poruszaną problematyką. W części pierwszej zamieszczono fundamentalne zagadnienia teoretyczne, które swoim zasięgiem obejmują charakterystykę kultury Głuchych, języka migowego oraz aspekt społeczny i medyczny związany z głuchotą. W następnej kolejności zaprezentowano rozdział metodologiczny, ukazujący opis narzędzi i źródeł danych oraz analizę materiału badawczego wraz z holistyczną interpretacją uzyskanych wyników. Niniejsza praca dyplomowa ma charakter cząstkowego uzupełnienia stanu badań na temat zagadnienia rozwoju mowy słyszących dzieci niesłyszących rodziców.

This Master's thesis addresses the issue of the language functioning of the CODA (Child of Deaf Adults) family. Therefore, the subject of the study was the practiced method of communication of the hearing child and his deaf mother. A review of the literature of the discussed matter proves that there is a clear research gap in the indicated issue. Due to this fact, an attempt to was made to explore the importance of specific conditions for shaping and developing the child's language. In order to collect data, the ethnography of communication was used to diagnosis of participants' language. The content of individual chapters is closely correlated with the issues raised. The first part contains the fundamental theoretical issues that cover the characteristics of the Deaf culture, sign language, and the social and medical aspects related to deafness. Afterwards a methodological chapter was presented. It shows the description of tools and data sources as well as the analysis of research material together with a holistic interpretation of the results obtained. This diploma thesis is a partial supplement to the state of research on the subject of speech development in hearing children of deaf parents.
