England 1066-1087: The Time of Changes

Przedmiotem napisanej pracy jest sytuacja w Anglia po bezpotomnej śmierci króla Edwarda Wyznawcy w 1066 r. Brak jego stanowczych decyzji w sprawie sukcesji po nim doprowadził w efekcie do konfliktu pomiędzy jego szwagrem, nowym królem Anglii Haroldem II, a księciem Normandii Wilhelmem. Obaj bowiem utrzymywali, że zostali przez Edwarda wyznaczeni na jego następcę. Wilhelm w końcu zaatakował króla i pokonał go w bitwie pod Hastings, która na zawsze zmieniła oblicza państwa angielskiego. Przedstawiono w tej pracy przyczyny i praprzyczyny tych wydarzeń, przeanalizowano XI i XII-wieczne źródła pod kątem legalnych podstaw władzy obu wymienionych królów, a także opisano tytułowe „przemiany”, do których wówczas doszło w Anglii tak w sferze politycznej, jak i społecznej czy kulturowej.

The subject of this work is the situation in England after the passing of king Edward the Confessor in 1066, who died without an issue. His indecisiveness regarding the succesion after him caused a conflict between his brother-in-law the new king of England Harold II and prince William of Normandy. Both claimed they had been appointed by Edward as his succesor. Finally, William attacked the king and defeated him in the battle of Hastings which changed the image of the English country forever. This work presents the causes and pre-causes of these events, analyses 11th and 12th cent. sources in terms of the legal bases of both aforesaid kings and also containes information concerning the title's "changes", which underwent in political, social and cultural spheres of England
