Types of space in the magical realism as a reflection of human experience of reality

Praca ta stanowi próbę ujęcia rozważań jak utwory należące do realizmu magicznego przedstawiają percepcję rzeczywistości za pomocą kategorii przestrzennych. Najważniejszym zadaniem jest przedstawienie wzajemnych oddziaływań dwóch głównych poziomów tekstu literackiego na siebie, tj. bohatera i przestrzeni akcji utworu. Zawarte w pracy rozważania oparte są o analizę i interpretację konkretnych przykładów literackich. Dobór lektur uwzględnia przede wszystkim kwestię relacji między podmiotem a miejscem. Główną tezą pracy jest założenie, że doświadczania przestrzeni nie sposób rozpatrywać w oderwaniu od sytuacji podmiotu. To, jak postać literacka odnajduje się w środowisku, w którym przebywa, i jak odczuwa jego wpływ na samą siebie, stanowi rdzeń doświadczania przestrzeni. Badania podjęte w pracy kładą więc akcent na literaturze doświadczenia, a nie reprezentacji rzeczywistości czy kreowaniu fikcji. Praca zawiera tylko kilka spośród licznych przykładów literackich reprezentacji przestrzeni w realizmie magicznym. Zostały w niej wyszczególnione i scharakteryzowane m.in mityczna osada, sen i nawiedzony dom.

This dissertation is an attempt to capture the considerations how literary works that are in the genre of magical realism present perception of reality using spatial categories. The most important thing is to present mutual interaction between the two main levels of literary text, there is the character and the space of action of the literary work. The considerations included in the dissertation are based on the analysis and interpretation of selected examples. Primarily, the choice of literature considers the issues of relationship between subject and space. The main thesis is an assumption that it is impossible to consider experiencing space without the situation of the subject. How the character finds themselves in the environment in which they are, and how they feel its influence on themselves, is the core of experiencing space. That is why studies undertaken in the thesis put stress on the literature of experience, and not on the representation of reality or creating fiction. The dissertation includes only few of the numerous examples of literary representations of space in the magical realism. Among others, a mythical village, a dream and a haunted house have been specified and characterised in the dissertation.
