Stateless People in Kuwait: History and Modern Issues.

Niniejsza praca przedstawia trudną sytuację bezpaństwowców w Kuwejcie. Temat ten jest ważny z uwagi na skalę występowania tego problemu. Bidun, bo tak nazywani są apatrydzi w Kuwejcie, stanowią znaczny odsetek społeczeństwa w tym państwie. Obecnie ich liczbę szacuje się na około 120 tysięcy. Brak obywatelstwa powoduje szereg utrudnień w ich codziennym życiu. Najpoważniejsze z nich to między innymi brak dostępu do opieki medycznej, edukacji czy posiadania niezbędnych do normalnego funkcjonowania dokumentów. W pierwszym rozdziale wytłumaczone jest zjawisko bezpaństwowości, omówione są jego przyczyny, a także prawodawstwo z nim związane. Kolejna część pracy poświęcona jest genezie i rozwojowi problemu bezpaństwowości na terenie Kuwejtu. Opisany jest także wpływ wielokulturowości na występowanie tego zjawiska. Ostatni rozdział przedstawia aktualne problemy bezpaństwowców. W celu bardziej wiarygodnego przekazu, w pracy zawarte są również historie konkretnych osób należących do społeczności bidun. Pozwala to na pełniejsze zobrazowanie trudnej codzienności życia bezpaństwowców.

This essay presents difficult situation of stateless people in Kuwait. This topic is very important because of the scale of this problem. Bidun, this is how stateless people are called in Kuwait, are a large part of society. It is estimated that today in Kuwait live 120 thousand stateless people. Lack of citizenship causes a lot of difficulties in their daily lives. The most serious problems are the lack of access to medical care, education or inability to get necessary documents.In the first chapter the author explained the phenomenon of statelessness, presented its causes and legislation associated with it. Next part of the essay is devoted to origins and evolution of the problem of statelessness in Kuwait. It describes also the impact of multiculturalism on the occurrence of this phenomenon. The final chapter presents the current problems of stateless people. For making this essay more reliable, it includes stories of individuals belonging to a bidun community. This allows us to have more complete illustration of the difficult everyday life of stateless people.
