Voodoo in Benin

Niniejsza praca poświęcona jest religii wudu, jaka współcześnie występuje w Beninie. Jest to praca będąca wynikiem empirycznych badań, jakie autor przeprowadził podróżując po tym kraju. Zdobyty przez niego materiał jest niekonwencjonalny, ponieważ jest to materiał filmowy. Autor zrealizował film dokumentalny, który ukazuje z dużą dokładnością niektóre aspekty życia religijnego mieszkańców tego kraju. Film ten trwa 36 minut i ujmuje codzienne czynności religijne lokalnej społeczności. Oprócz tego obfituje w wywiady z poszczególnymi osobami należącymi do tej społeczności, które zgodziły się wystąpić przed kamerą. Biorąc pod uwagę znikomą ilość publikacji na temat benińskiego wudu, film ten z pewnością może być dobrym materiałem źródłowym do dalszych badań i analiz dla badaczy zajmujących się tą tematyką. Oprócz ukazania dzisiejszego wudu, autor daje obraz wpływu, jaki ma na tę religię nowoczesny świat wraz ze wszystkim, co się z ową nowoczesnością wiąże, a także jak oddziałuje na tę religię ekspandujący katolicyzm. Ten ostatni wątek jest szalenie istotny, ponieważ uwidacznia się pewne zjawisko. Chodzi o występujący silny synkretyzm, polegający między innymi na tym, że katolicy benińscy, nawet jeśli są silnie zaangażowani w Kościół, to nigdy nie przestają być wyznawcami wudu.

This work is devoted to the religion of voodoo, which exists today in Benin. It is a work which is the result of empirical research that the author carried out traveling around the country. Captured by the material it is unconventional because it is a film material. The author made a film documentary that shows with great accuracy some aspects of religious life of the people of this country. The film lasts 36 minutes and recorded the daily activities of the local religious community. In addition, rich in interviews with individuals belonging to this community, who agreed to appear on camera. Given the insignificant number of publications about voodoo in Benin, the film certainly can be a good source material for further research and analysis for researchers dealing with the subject. In addition to today's show the voodoo, the author gives a picture of the impact that has on the religion of the modern world with all that is associated with that modernity, as well as the effect on the religion of expanding Catholicism. This last topic is extremely important because it reveals a certain phenomenon. As for the present strong syncretism, involving among other things, that the Catholics in Benin, even if they are heavily involved in the church, it will never cease to be followers of voodoo.
