An image of Cracovian vegans in the context of city veganisation

Dieta wegańska rodzi wiele kontrowersji, a podejście do wegan jawi się jako ambiwalentne. Globalny trend weganizmu sprawia, że o samej idei dowiaduje się coraz więcej ludzi, a miasta – sterowane rosnącym popytem na produkty wegańskie – ulegają przeobrażeniom. Nie inaczej jest z Krakowem, który dzięki swojemu wielokulturowemu rodowodowi i długoletniej tradycji akademickiej, wydaje się idealnym miejscem dla rozkwitu myśli wegańskiej.Celem niniejszej pracy było pozyskanie danych dotyczących wegan studiujących, pracujących lub/i mieszkających w Krakowie, w tym tego, jak badani weganie definiują siebie i weganizm, czy wschodzą w relacje z innymi weganami oraz w jaki sposób, w ich subiektywnym odczuciu, są postrzegani przez nie-wegan. Istotnym elementem pracy było także przedstawienie objawów weganizacji Krakowa i funkcjonowania wegan w jego kontekście.

Veganism is controversial and the society’s approach towards veganism is mainly ambivalent.The global trend of veganism means that more and more people learn about the idea itself. And cities — driven by the growing demand for vegan products — undergo transformations. It is no different with Krakow, which thanks to its multicultural pedigree and many years of academic tradition, seems to be an ideal place for the flowering of vegan thoughts.The purpose of the present study was to obtain data on vegans studying, working or living in Krakow, including how the vegan respondents define themselves and veganism, whether they spend their time with other vegans and how, in their subjective perception, they are perceived by non-vegans. An important element of the work was also the presentation of the symptoms of veganisation of Krakow and the functioning of vegans in its context.
