Analiza porównawcza dwóch polskich przekładów powieści "Bóg rzeczy małych" autorstwa Arundhati Roy

Celem niniejszej pracy jest analiza komparatystyczna dwóch polskich przekładów powieści "Bóg rzeczy małych" autorstwa Arundhati Roy pod kątem strategii udomowienia i egzotyzacji opisanych przez Venutiego. Praca składa się z trzech rozdziałów: dwóch teoretycznych oraz analitycznego. Pierwszy rozdział oferuje wstęp do kolonialnej historii wprowadzenia języka angielskiego w Indiach, omówienie problematyki przekładu postkolonialnego oraz kluczowe informacje na temat powieści, autorki oraz tłumaczeń. W drugim rozdziale omówione zostają koncepty udomowienia i egzotyzacji oraz kwestia nierównomiernej wymiany kulturowej między dominującą kulturą anglo-amerykańską a resztą świata. Podkreślona zostaje rola egzotyzacji jako narzędzia przeciwko kulturowej hegemonii. Na koniec wprowadzona zostaje “negatywna analiza” Bermana, która będzie służyć jako suplementujące narzędzie do porównania wybranych fragmentów w rozdziale analitycznym. Trzeci rozdział oferuję analizę różnorodnych elementów stylistycznych oraz kulturowych obecnych w tekście źródłowym i kontrastuje je z dwoma Polskimi tłumaczeniami autorstwa Tomasza Bieronia oraz Jerzego Łozińskiego.

The aim of this thesis is the comparative analysis of two Polish translations of the novel "The God of Small Things" by Arundhati Roy with regard to Venuti's strategies of domestication and foreignization. The work consists of three chapters: two theoretical and one analytical. The first chapter introduces the colonial history of the English language in India, discusses the issues of postcolonial translation, and provides key information about the novel, the author, and the translations. The second chapter discusses the concepts of domestication and foreignization, as well as the issue of uneven cultural exchange between the dominant Anglo-American sphere and the rest of the world. The role of foreignization as a tool against cultural hegemony is emphasised. Finally, Berman's "negative analytic of translation" is introduced as a supplementary tool for comparing selected passages in the analytical chapter. The third chapter offers an analysis of various stylistic and cultural elements present in the source text and contrasts them with two Polish translations by Tomasz Bieroń and Jerzy Łoziński.
