Ocena stanu odżywienia i funkcjonalnego pacjentki w starszym wieku leczonej chirurgicznie
Nutritional and functional assessment status of an elderly patient treated surgically
Ocena stanu odżywienia, ocena stanu funkcjonalnego, osoba starsza, chirurgia onkologiczna
Nutritional status assessment, functional status assessment, elderly person, oncological surgery
Materiał i metody: Badaniem objęto 82-letnią pacjentkę leczoną chirurgicznie.
Introduction: Proper nutrition and functional status are important factors affecting health. The presence of cancer promotes the occurrence of malnutrition and impaired functional status of patients. Functional state affects the quality of life of the elderly, and changes occurring in the aging process lead to limitations in independent functioning. The aim: The aim of the study was to assess the nutritional and functional status of an elderly patient before and after surgery in order to restore the continuity of the gastrointestinal tract in the course of cancer of the large intestine.Material and methods: The study included 82-year-old patient undergoing surgery. The research used the individual case method, document analysis and the diagnostic survey method. The following research techniques were used: observation technique, scale technique, medical document analysis technique and explicit interview technique. Results: The assessments of the patient's nutritional status showed the risk of malnutrition. The patient's BMI results were within normal limits. The patient during the study was moderately fit, excluding perioperative time, in which she was incapable of undertaking daily activities. The assessment of the patient's functional state showed significant differences in the occurrence of pressure ulcer risk depending on the state of health in the course of surgical treatment. Conclusions: The study showed that the patient had been at risk of malnutrition that persisted throughout the study period. According to the functional assessment, before the surgery the patient required significant help in performing basic activities, whereas after surgery on 13th day she required little help. An improvement in the functional state of the patient was observed on day 13 after the surgery, compared to the functional capacity before the surgery, with the condition of nutrition being equally stable.
