Cemeteries of Soviet soldiers in Poland as an unwanted heritage

Praca porusza problem odpowiedniej ochrony cmentarzy żołnierzy radzieckich w Polsce w kontekście traktowania ich jako dziedzictwo niechciane. W ramach pracy poruszono historię pojawienia się cmentarzy na terytorium obecnej Rzeczpospolitej oraz towarzyszące temu okoliczności. Zawiera ona także analizę dokumentów pozwalający na ich ochronę zarówno jako cmentarz wojenny, funkcjonujący na mocy prawa RP, jak również umów międzynarodowych, ale również jako obiekt stanowiący część istotnego dziedzictwa kulturowego, które objąć można dodatkową ochroną. Dotyka ona także problemu odbioru cmentarzy żołnierzy radzieckich przez polskie społeczeństwo oraz wpływające na niego czynniki. Co nie tylko niezwykle utrudnia ich ochronę, czy możliwość zaistnienia w przestrzeni kulturowej, ale również prowadzi do licznych aktów wandalizmu.

The thesis raises the problem of proper protection of cemeteries of Soviet soldiers in Poland in the context of treating them as an unwanted heritage, then follows the analysis of the history of the appearance of cemeteries on the territory of the current Poland and the accompanying circumstances. It also contains an analysis of documents that allows for their protection both as a war cemetery, functioning under the law of the Republic of Poland, as well as international agreements, but also as an object forming part of an important cultural heritage that can be covered by additional protection. It also touches on the problem of the reception of cemeteries of Soviet soldiers by Polish society and the factors affecting it. Which not only makes it extremely difficult for them to be protected, or to appear in cultural space, but also leads to numerous acts of vandalism.
