Criminal profiling as a multidisciplinary method of identifying and detecting offenders

W niniejszej pracy ukazana została istota profilowania kryminalnego jako metody wspomagającej proces śledztwa w dotarciu do sprawców przestępstw. Przedstawiono w niej znaczenie psychologii kryminalistycznej i rozwój profilowania na przestrzeni wieków. Zaprezentowano podstawowe modele wykorzystywane w trakcie tworzenia portretów psychologicznych oraz przybliżono proces powstawania profilu. Ukazano także zastosowanie profilowania kryminalnego w wybranych typach spraw, skupiając się na przestępstwach przeciwko wolności seksualnej, profilowaniu sprawców zabójstw, podpaleń i pedofilii. Ocenie poddany został stopień użyteczności wykonywanych przez profilerów ekspertyz oraz korzyści i kontrowersje wynikające z zastosowania tej metody. Zbadano również poziom wiedzy funkcjonariuszy dotyczący profilowania oraz perspektywy rozwoju tej techniki w Polsce.

This thesis shows the essence of criminal profiling as a method supporting investigation in reaching out to perpetrators of crimes. It presents the importance of forensic psychology and the development of profiling over the centuries. Basic models used in creating psychological portraits are presented and the process of creating a profile is presented. The use of criminal profiling in selected types of cases was also indicated, focusing on crimes against sexual freedom, profiling perpetrators of homicides, arson and pedophilia. It also includes the degree of usefulness of using expert opinions made by profilers and the benefits and controversies resulting from the use of this method. It also shows the level of police officers knowledge about profiling and the prospects for the development of this technique in Poland.
