Linguistic axiology in the perspective of social anthropology. Study of the concepts of “freedom” and “nation”

Myśl zawarta w pracy rozwija się – zgodnie z tytułem – dwutorowo. Z jednej strony przedmiotem analizy są pojęcia „wolność” oraz „naród” i ich konceptualizacje pozyskane w toku badań empirycznych. Główną inspiracją i jednocześnie punktem wyjścia dla badań była polska tradycja namysłu nad wartościami w języku, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem prac środowiska lubelskiego i jej efektów zawartych w publikacji „Język-wartości-polityka”. Celem badania było porównanie sposobów konceptualizacji obu wybranych przeze mnie wartości do wyników uzyskanych przez zespół lubelski w latach 1990 oraz 2000. Drugą osią pracy była natomiast szersza refleksja nad aksjologią lingwistyczną i próba analizy rzetelności metod badawczych przez nią stosowanych. Głównym kontekstem dla namysłu nad wartościami w językoznawstwie była antropologia kulturowa i tradycja badań terenowych, a nadrzędnym celem ukazanie przestrzeni, w której obie nauki mogą wzajemnie się zasilać i uzupełniać.

The thought contained in the thesis develops - in accordance with the title - in two ways. On the one hand, the subject of the analysis are the concepts of "freedom" and "nation" and their conceptualizations obtained in the empirical research. The main inspiration and the reference point for the research was the Polish tradition of reflecting on values in language, with particular emphasis on the work of the Lublin community and its effects contained in the publication 'Language-values-politics'. The aim of the study was to compare the methods of conceptualizing the two chosen values to the results obtained by the Lublin team of linguists in 1990 and 2000. The second pillar of the work was a broader reflection on linguistic axiology and an attempt to analyze the reliability of the research methods used by it. The main context for reflecting on values in linguistics was cultural anthropology and the tradition of field research, and the overarching goal was to show an expanse in which both of the sciences could complement each other.
