The influence of KL Auschwitz on the development and people's perception of the city of Oswiecim

Tematem niniejszej pracy magisterskiej jest obóz koncentracyjny KL Auschwitz i jego wpływ na rozwój i postrzeganie Oświęcimia. Głównym problemem badawczym jest chęć odpowiedzi na pytanie, czy Państwowe Muzeum, leżące na pograniczach miasta, wpływa na jego rozwój. Spróbuję odpowiedzieć, też czy przekłada się to w podobnym stopniu na wizerunek miejsca, a jeśli tak to jakie są tego przyczyny. Prace można podzielić na dwie części. Pierwsza składa się z teorii i opisuje zagadnienia związane z zarządzaniem, publicznym zarządzaniem i administracją. Druga to opis Oświęcimia, a także podsumowanie przeprowadzonych badań. W napisaniu pracy, posługiwałam się licznymi pozycjami bibliograficznymi z zakresu nauk zarządzania, a także o tematyce bezpośrednio związanej z tematem. Pomocne okazały się też, wywiad przeprowadzony z Naczelnikiem Biura Rozwoju Miasta Oświęcim a także własne doświadczenia, jako że jestem osobą pochodzącą bezpośrednio z tych obszarów. Najważniejszym problemem badawczym tej pracy jest pytanie, na ile nazistowski obóz koncentracyjny z okresu II wojny światowej wpływa na zarządzanie miastem i jego wizerunek. Jest to zasadnicze pytanie o relację obrazu istniejącego w ludzkiej świadomości do stanu faktycznego.

The topic of this master's thesis is the concentration camp KL Auschwitz and its influence on the development and the people's perception of Oswiecim. The main research issue is an attempt to answer the question - does the National Museum, located on the outskirts of the city, have any influence on the development of the city. I will also try to discover if that ties into how the city itself is perceived and what are the main factors responsible for it. The thesis can be divided into two parts. The first is consisted of theoretical portion of the thesis. It describes issues connected with management, public management and administration. The second part is the description of Oswiecim and the summary of conducted research. In writing the thesis I used many bibliographical entries related to the domain of management and directly related to the topic of the thesis. I also conducted an interview with the Chief of City development and tapped into my personal experiences on the basis that I am an individual who was born and raised in that area. The most important research issue is also the question of how much is the Word War 2 era Nazi concentration camp shaping the image of the city and what is its influence on the management aspect. This is the essential question about the relation between the people's perceived image of the city and factual state of the matter.
