Religion in the Political Sphere of the Republic of Turkey

Celem niniejszej pracy jest zbadanie roli religii jako czynnika kształtującego przestrzeń polityczną we współczesnej Republice Turcji. Oparta jest ona na analizie historycznej, obejmującej chronologiczne przedstawienie kluczowych wydarzeń w dziejach państwa tureckiego, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem zjawiska islamizmu oraz kwestii niemuzułmańskich mniejszości religijnych. Praca uwzględnia również konteksty kulturowe, socjologiczne i polityczne, które miały wpływ na obecną sytuację mniejszości. Szczegółowy rys historyczny, połączony z analizą aktów prawnych oraz dokumentów źródłowych, pozwala na sformułowanie nie tylko interesujących wniosków dotyczących dyskryminacji mniejszości religijnych we współczesnej Turcji, lecz także na przedstawienie tematyki różnych nurtów islamizmu na przestrzeni dziejów republiki i jego oddziaływanie na politykę wewnętrzną i zewnętrzną kraju.

The aim of this thesis is to examine the role of religion as a factor shaping the political landscape of the contemporary Republic of Turkey. It is based on a historical analysis that presents a chronological overview of key events in the history of the Turkish state, with particular emphasis on the phenomenon of Islamism and the issue of non-Muslim religious minorities. The thesis also considers cultural, sociological, and political contexts that have influenced the current situation of these minorities. A detailed historical outline, combined with an analysis of legal acts and historical documents, enables the formulation of insightful conclusions regarding the discrimination of religious minorities in modern Turkey, as well as an exploration of various currents of Islamism throughout the history of the republic and their impact on the country’s domestic and foreign policy.
