Christian-Muslim dialogue during the pontificate of John Paul II (1980s).

Celem pracy jest próba przedstawienia historii dialogu Jana Pawła II pomiędzy islamem a chrześcijaństwem, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem lat 80. Osiągnięcia Papieża Polaka w tym zakresie miały ogromny wpływ na to, jak relacja między wyznawcami chrześcijaństwa i islamu wygląda obecnie. W rozdziale pierwszym skupiłam się na ewolucji nastawienia Kościoła katolickiego względem innych religii, w tym islamu. Wzięłam pod uwagę okres przed II Soborem Watykańskim, dokumenty soborowe, oraz dialogiczne inicjatywy Pawła VI. Drugi rozdział to ogólne podsumowanie działalności Jana Pawła II przed konklawe, oraz w trakcie dwóch pierwszych lat pontyfikatu. Rozdział ogólnie skupia się na „przygotowaniu” Jana Pawła II do dialogu. Natomiast w rozdziale III skupiłam się na latach 80. W tym czasie Papież odbył wiele pielgrzymek do krajów muzułmańskich, przemawiał do muzułmanów, np. w Casablance, czym trafiał w ich serca. Nawoływał do dialogu i miłości. Poddałam także analizie dokumenty Jana Pawła podejmujące kwestię dialogu międzyreligijnego.

The aim of this work is to present the history of dialogue of John Paul II between Islam and Christianity, particularly during 1980s. Achievements of the Polish Pope in this area had a huge impact on how the relationship between the followers of Christianity and Islam looks now. In the first chapter I focused on the evolution of the attitude of the Catholic Church to other religions, including Islam. I took into account the period before the Second Vatican Council, the conciliar documents, and dialogical initiative of Paul VI. The second chapter is a general summary of the activities of John Paul II before the conclave, and during the first two years of his pontificate. Chapter generally focuses on the "preparation" of John Paul II to the dialogue. However, in chapter III I focused on the 80s. At that time, the Pope made several pilgrimages to Muslim countries, speaking to Muslims, eg. in Casablanca, which hit in their hearts. He called for dialogue and love. I analyzed the documents of John Paul undertaking the issue of interreligious dialogue too.
