The changing face of racism in American society on the basis of the Ku Klux Klan history.

W pracy podjęto tematykę relacji między częścią białych obywateli a Afroamerykanami i innymi grupami mniejszościowymi w Stanach Zjednoczonych Ameryki. Głównym problemem badawczym w tej pracy jest ewolucja postaw rasistowskich na przestrzeni lat, przedstawiona na przykładzie działalności Ku Klux Klanu. Przytoczone zostały wydarzenia w historii Stanów Zjednoczonych, zmiany w prawodawstwie na poziomie federalnym i stanowym, które wpłynęły na rozwój bądź zanik rasizmu. Przeanalizowane zostały zasady funkcjonowania i działania Klanu w przeszłości i w czasach współczesnych m.in jego struktura, kształtowanie własnego wizerunku, pozyskiwanie zwolenników, rekrutacja nowych członków, stosowanie przemocy. Przedstawiono również postawy i działania władz oraz pozostałej części społeczeństwa amerykańskiego wobec Klanu, a także starania w zapobieganiu i zwalczaniu jego działalności. Najważniejszą konkluzją płynącą z pracy jest stwierdzenie, że to nie Ku Klux Klan negatywnie wpływał na poziom agresji i rasizmu w społeczeństwie amerykańskim, tylko rozwój i działalność tej organizacji była efektem nastrojów wcześniej już panujących wśród Amerykanów.

This thesis addresses the relationship between some white citizens and African Americans and other minority groups in the United States. The main research problem is the evolution of racist attitudes over the years, exemplified by the activities of the Ku Klux Klan. The history of the United States and some changes in legislation that influenced the development or disappearance of racism are cited. The principles and activities of the Klan in the past and in modern times are analyzed. This includes its structure, shaping its image, its attraction, its recruitment of new members, and the use of violence. It also presents the attitudes and actions of the authorities and the rest of American society towards the Klan, as well as the efforts to prevent its activities. The most important conclusion drawn from the thesis is that it was not the Ku Klux Klan that negatively influenced the level of aggression and racism in American society, but rather the development and activities of this organization were the result of the views that had already prevailed among Americans.
