The role of photography in family reminiscing as building intergenerational relationship of memory

Korzystając z teorii Maurice'a Halbwachsa oraz Aleidy Assmann autorka stara się opisać i zgłębić mechanizmy rodzinnego wspominania. Opierając się na antropologicznej metodzie badań z wykorzystaniem wywiadów bada jaką rolę we wspominaniu i pielęgnowaniu pamięci o przodkach mają stare fotografie. Skupiając się na pokoleniu młodych dorosłych praca sprawdza jakie wartości oraz znaczenia przypisują oni do starej fotografii oraz rodzinnych historii w swoim życiu.

This thesis explores the topic of memory studies, focusing on the role and functions of old family photographs in the process of reminiscing. Using the theories of Maurice Halbwachs and Aleida Assmann, the author attempts to describe and explore the mechanisms of family reminiscing. Based on the anthropological research method using interviews, she examines the role of old photographs in remembering and cultivating the memory of ancestors. Focusing on the generation of young adults, the work examines what values ​​and meanings they attribute to old photographs and family stories in their lives.
