Niniejsza praca analizuje domniemane zmiany w światopoglądzie w tekście A Clockwork Orange Anthony'ego Burgessa i jej polskich przekładach. Rozdział pierwszy zawiera informacje o autorze i tłumaczu, ich pochodzeniu i doświadczeniach, które wpłynęły na kształt tekstów. Bada także znaczenie tej powieści w kulturze. Dodatkowo wyjaśniono pochodzenie i naturę Nadsatu, slangu używanego w książce.W rozdziale drugim skupiono się na literackich teoriach przepisywania i wybranych pojęciach stylistyki kognitywnej. Fragmenty skupiają się na postrzeganiu przez protagonistę trzech głównych grup – siebie, kobiet i osób posiadających autorytet oraz osób bezbronnych. This thesis analyzes implied shifts in a worldview portrayed in A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess and its Polish translations. The first chapter provides information on the author and the translator, their backgrounds, and experiences that influenced the creation of the texts. It also explores the significance of the novel in culture. Additionally, the origins and nature of Nadsat, the slang used in the book, are explained.In Chapter Two, the focus is on literary theories of rewriting and selected notions of cognitive stylistics. André Lefevere’s theory is explained with its significance for translation. The phenomena of foregrounding, mind style, mental spaces and the communication model within a narrative are described together with their relevance to translation.In Chapter Three, the selected fragments of A Clockwork Orange and its translations are analyzed. The fragments focus on the protagonist’s perception of three main groups – himself, women and people with authority as well as vulnerable people. The fragments are compared with their two translations, applying the methodologies described in Chapter Two to show different shifts in the protagonist’s worldview.In Conclusion, the implied shifts in the character’s worldview in the translations are highlighted to show different cognitive states related to the original protagonist and his versions emerging from translations.
