The problems of the Hungarian minority in Slovakia

Praca podejmuje problem mniejszości węgierskiej żyjącej na Słowacji. Tematyka mniejszości narodowych, a szczególności słowackich Węgrów nie jest powszechnie znana, poruszana jest bardzo rzadko, przy czym do sprawy zawsze podchodzi się ogólnikowo i porównuje się z mniejszościami Węgierskimi żyjącymi w innych krajach. Warto zauważyć, ze ta grupa narodowościowa na Słowacji jest bardzo specyficzna i należy omawiać ją w kontekście historycznym. Metodą zastosowaną do przygotowania tej pracy jest analiza prawno-historyczna. Praca ma na celu przedstawienie syntetycznego opracowania dokumentów traktujących o prawach mniejszości, zarówno uniwersalnych, jak i regionalnych. Opisuje historię stosunków węgierko-słowackich od czasów monarchii Austro-Węgierskiej, przez traktat Trianon oraz objęcie Węgrów dekretami Benesa aż do aksamitnej rewolucji. Pokazuje jak sytuacja wyglądała w ostatnich latach oraz opisuje węgierskie partie funkcjonujące na Słowacji. Praca przedstawia działania strony węgierskiej w celu ochrony Węgrów pozostających poza granicami kraju, tj. Karta Węgra, ustawa o obywatelstwie oraz niektóre zapisy nowej Konstytucji. Bada sprawę braku zgody wjazdu na terytorium Słowacji prezydenta László Sólyoma. Wprowadza również postać bohatera słowackich Węgrów Janosa Esterhazego.Pomimo poprawy sytuacji ludności węgierskiej na Słowacji trudno mówić o rozwiązaniu problemów, które istnieją w sąsiadujących narodach od pokoleń.

The paper deal with the issue of the Hungarian minority living in Slovakia. The subject of national minorities, especially Slovak Hungarians is not well-known. Furthermore, the matter is always compared with the Hungarian minorities living in other countries. It is worth mentioning that this ethnic group in Slovakia is very specific and it should be discussed in the historical context. The method based on analysing the legal and historical sources.The article aims to give a synthetic account of documents dealing with minority rights, both universal and regional. It describes the history of Hungarian-Slovak relations since the Austro-Hungarian Empire, by the Treaty of Trianon and Benes decrees to the Velvet Revolution. The paper presents how the situation looked like in recent years. Particular attention is paid to the actions of the Hungarian side to protect Hungarians beyond the borders of the country, ie. Card Hungarian, Citizenship Act and some provisions of the new Constitution. Moreover describes the functioning Hungarian parties in Slovakia. The article analyses the case refusal to enter the territory of Slovakia President László Sólyom. It also introduces the main character of Slovak Hungarians Janos Esterhazy.Despite the improvement of the situation of the Hungarian population in Slovakia, it is difficult to talk about solving the problems that exist in neighboring nations for generations.
