Tłumaczenie dialektu Geordie a wersja lektorska – wyzwania, ograniczenia i rozwiązania

Praca pt. „Tłumaczenie dialektu Geordie a wersja lektorska – wyzwania, ograniczenia i rozwiązania” jest poświęcona tłumaczeniu dialektu Geordie w polskiej wersji lektorskiej serialu MTV „Ekipa z Newcastle". Celem pracy jest zbadanie przyczyn, dlaczego dialekt nie został przetłumaczony na polski, ukazując tym samym, że istnieją w języku docelowym potencjalne ekwiwalenty elementów dialektu. Analiza polega na rozpoznaniu słownictwa i gramatyki dialektu Geordie oraz ich porównaniu z polskim tłumaczeniem. Analiza ta wykazuje, że dzisiejsza odmiana dialektu Geordie używana wśród młodych ludzi składa się ze słownictwa Geordie, zarówno tradycyjnego jak i nowo powstałego; gramatyki, która narusza reguły standardowej gramatyki angielskiej; oraz akcentu, który nie jest analizowany w ramach niniejszej pracy. Autorka wyjaśnia w pracy, dlaczego przetłumaczenie dialektu jest konieczne. Pokazuje ona, że znalezienie polskich ekwiwalentów elementów dialektu Geordie prawdopodobnie nie było główną przyczyną nieprzetłumaczenia dialektu. Wymagania związane z techniką przekładu lektorskiego, jak również inne zewnętrzne czynniki, takie jak kwalifikacje tłumaczy i specyfika ich pracy, są wymienione jako powody, które mogłyby być jedną z przyczyn wyżej wspomnianej sytuacji. Przede wszystkim forma dialektu używana w serialu nie jest przykładem czystej wersji dialektu i składa się ona z powtarzalnych elementów. Dlatego też końcowym wnioskiem pracy jest to, że są okoliczności, w których naruszenie do pewnego stopnia wymagań wersji lektorskiej – po to, aby umożliwić przetłumaczenie dialektu, co mogłoby znacząco przyczynić się do lepszego zrozumienia przez widzów znaczenia serialu – może być uzasadnione.

The paper “Geordie Dialect Translation and Voice-over: Challenges, Limitations and Remedies” is concerned with the translation of the Geordie dialect in the Polish voice-over version of the MTV series "Geordie Shore". Its aim is to explore the reasons why the dialect was not translated into Polish, showing, at the same time, that there exist potential target language equivalents of dialectal elements. The analysis consists in the determination of the Geordie vocabulary and grammar and their comparison with the Polish translation. It reveals that the contemporary condition of the Geordie dialect among young people is composed of the Geordie vocabulary, both traditional and recently developed one; the grammar which violates the rules of the standard English grammar; and the accent, which is not examined in the present study. In the paper, the author explains why the dialect reflection is necessary. She demonstrates that finding Polish equivalents of the elements of the Geordie dialect was probably not the main reason responsible for the dialect non-reflection. Voice-over requirements as well as other external factors, such as translators’ competences or the nature of translators' work, are listed among the reasons that could be one of the causes of the above-mentioned situation. Above all, the form of the dialect used in the series does not exemplify a strong version of the dialect and consists of repetitive elements. Therefore, the final conclusions of the paper is that there are circumstances when certain violation of the voice-over requirements can be justified in order to allow for the dialect translation, which could contribute significantly to a better understanding of the meaning of the series by its viewers.
