Medieval heresies and countermeasure of the Church in Western Europe in the 12th and 13th century

Niniejsza praca zatytułowana „Herezje średniowieczne i przeciwdziałanie Kościoła na terenie Europy Zachodniej w wieku XII i XIII” dąży do zaprezentowania pokrótce dziejów herezji oraz scharakteryzowania tych, przeciwko którym Kościół walczył w stuleciu XII i XIII. Skupiona jest także na podstawowych zagadnieniach dotyczących przeciwdziałania heretykom przez Kościół rzymski m.in: działalność inkwizycji czy krucjata przeciw albigensom.Dokumenty soborów powszechnych oraz podręcznik napisany przez Bernarda Gui, francuskiego inkwizytora działającego w pierwszej połowie XIV wieku, posłużyły mi jako źródła. Opracowania angielskie i amerykańskie pozwoliły mi spojrzeć na badane przeze mnie zagadnienie z różnych perspektyw.

This work titled “Medieval heresies and countermeasure of the Church in Western Europe in the 12th and 13th century” aim at presenting short history of heresy and characterizing those heresies against which the Church was fighting in the 12th and 13th century. Also, it is focus about basic subject concerning work done by the Roman Church against heretics including: activity of inquisition or Albigensian Crusade.Ecumenical council documents and handbook written by Bernard Gui, French inquisitor acting in the first half of the 14th century, served me as sources. The English and American secondary sources have allowed me to take a closer look at the studied issue from different perspectives.
