Approach of Secondary School Leavers Towards the Problem of Abortion and Euthanasia

This thesis deals with secondary school leavers’ approach towards such issues as abortion and euthanasia. The theory part of my thesis introduces basic concepts related to the title of the thesis and characterizes prenatal and postnatal stages of a human life. The thesis also includes legal regulations concerning abortion and euthanasia and medical aspects are analyzed herein. In case of abortion I focused on woman’s physical and mental health effects and in cases of medical aspects of euthanasia - on its types. The thesis also indicates to the Roman-Catholic Church approach towards the problem of abortion and euthanasia in modern world.The following question is the central problem of this thesis: What are the approaches and attitudes of secondary school leavers towards the phenomenon of abortion and euthanasia? I used a diagnostic survey as a research tool. A questionnaire technique was used to carry out my research and to look into the problem I prepared a questionnaire which was given to students of Tytus Chalubinski Complex of Secondary Schools in Myslenice. The case group consisted of 150 persons – 88 girls and 62 boys. The results obtained from the questionnaire show that the students under the investigation are, in most case, against abortion and euthanasia. However, their knowledge about the problem is not enough. At the same time it turned out that the problem was not often discussed both at school and among the members of their families. The basic source of information about abortion and euthanasia is that of mass media. It seems to be very important that families and teachers as persons having substantial influence on the development of young people’s personalities and frequently being an example for them to follow should show a greater interest in the problem of abortion and euthanasia and more often talk about it with young people.

Praca dotyczy postaw maturzystów wobec zjawiska aborcji i eutanazji. W części teoretycznej wprowadzono podstawowe pojęcia związane z tematem pracy oraz dokonana została charakterystyka prenatalnego i postnatalnego etapu życia ludzkiego. W pracy zawarte zostały także uregulowania prawne dotyczące aborcji i eutanazji oraz poruszony został aspekt medyczny. W przypadku aborcji skupiłam się na skutkach dla zdrowia fizycznego i psychicznego kobiet, a w przypadku aspektów medycznych eutanazji – na jej rodzajach. W pracy poruszony także został stosunek Kościoła Katolickiego do problemu aborcji i eutanazji we współczesnym świecie.Problemem głównym pracy jest pytanie: Jakie są postawy maturzystów wobec zjawiska aborcji i eutanazji? W badaniach posłużyłam się metodą sondażu diagnostycznego. Do realizacji badań wybrałam technikę ankiety, a narzędziem którym posłużyłam się do zbadania problemu był kwestionariusz ankiety. Badania przeprowadziłam w Zespole Szkół Ponadgimnazjalnych im. Tytusa Chałubińskiego w Myślenicach. Badana przeze mnie grupa liczyła 150 osób, w tym 88 dziewcząt i 62 chłopców. Wyniki przeprowadzonych badań wskazują, że badani maturzyści w większości to przeciwnicy aborcji i eutanazji. Jednak ich wiedza na ten temat nie jest wystarczająca. Okazało się również, że temat ten jest rzadko poruszany nie tylko w rodzinach badanych ale także i w szkole. Podstawowym źródłem wiedzy o aborcji i eutanazji są dla nich mass media. Istotne jest zatem aby rodzina i nauczyciele jako osoby mające wielki wpływ na kształtowanie się osobowości i niejednokrotnie będący autorytetami dla młodych ludzi wykazywali większe zainteresowanie tematem aborcji i eutanazji oraz częściej poruszali go w rozmowach z młodymi ludźmi.
