Striving to survive – situation of Indigenous Peoples in modern Colombia on the basis of selected groups: Nukak Makú and Wayúu.

Tematem niniejszej pracy jest sytuacja ludności rdzennej we współczesnej Kolumbii w oparciu o przykłady dwóch badanych grup: Nukak Makú oraz Wayúu. Praca szczególnie skupia się na ukazaniu wyzwań życia we współczesnym społeczeństwie kolumbijskim oraz przedstawia sposoby jakich używają wymienione grupy do walki o przetrwanie i zachowanie własnych kultur. Pierwszy rozdział przybliża pojęcie ludności rdzennej w kontekście latynoamerykańskim, wyjaśniając kolejno: wątek lingwistyczny, historyczny, demograficzno-geograficzny. Drugi rozdział poświęcony jest charakterystyce wybranych grup rdzennych oraz problemów, z którymi mierzą się każdego dnia. Trzeci rozdział skupia się na ukazaniu rozwiązań (stosowanych zarówno przez same plemiona jak i przez aktorów zewnętrznych), które wspomagają walkę o przetrwanie grup. Praca została opracowana przy pomocy metody badań terenowych podczas pobytu na terenie osady Ranchería Arautachon w departamencie La Guajira w północno wschodniej części Kolumbii (obserwacja uczestnicząca, wywiad swobodny) oraz w oparciu o analizę źródeł naukowych.

The subject of the thesis is the situation of Indigenous Peoples in modern Colombia based on the examples of the two chosen groups: Nukak Makú and Wayúu. The work particularly focuses on showing the challenges of life in modern Colombian society and presents the ways that these groups use to fight for the survival and preservation of their own cultures. The first chapter introduces the concept of indigenous in the Latin American context, explaining the linguistic, historical, demographic, and geographical themes. The second chapter is devoted to the characteristics of selected indigenous groups and the problems they face every day. The third chapter focuses on showing solutions (used both by the tribes themselves and by external actors) that support the fight for the survival of groups. The thesis is based on the observations and free form interviews conducted during the field research in the Ranchería Arautachon settlement (La Guajira department in north-east Colombia) as well as on the analysis of the literature on this subject.
