Problematic aspects of audiovisual translation on the basis of own translation of "Kino Lika" (by Dalibor Matanić) dialogue list

Po przeszło stu latach od narodzin kina zagadnienie tłumaczeń audiowizualnych znacznie się rozrosło. Ten typ przekładu stał się niezwykle ważną gałęzią sektora tłumaczeniowego i choć wielu nie zdaje sobie z tego sprawy, jest to niesłychanie trudny rodzaj przekładu, czego dowodzi niniejsza praca. Na podstawie autorskiego tłumaczenia chorwackiego filmu Kino Lika Dalibora Matanicia (2008) w niniejszej pracy przedstawione zostają szczególnie problematyczne zagadnienia związane z transferem kulturowym w obrębie przekładu audiowizualnego, dokładniej – wersji napisowej. Praca została podzielona na dwie części – teoretyczną i praktyczną. Pierwsza z nich wprowadza zagadnienie przekładu audiowizualnego, opisuje jego problematykę i swoiste wewnętrzne zróżnicowanie. Na takiej teoretycznej podstawie bazuje część druga, praktyczna, która stanowi egzemplifikację większości problemów, na jakie napotyka tłumacz audiowizualny, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem specyfiki przekładu chorwacko-polskiego. Przytoczone zostają konkretne fragmenty tekstu źródłowego, problematyczne z punktu widzenia przekładu audiowizualnego, oraz propozycje ich polskich tłumaczeń z uzasadnieniem decyzji translatorskich. Celem niniejszej pracy jest bowiem przybliżenie problematyki tego typu tłumaczenia na konkretnych przykładach. Lista dialogowa Kina Lika okazała się do tego świetnym materiałem przede wszystkim ze względu na mocne osadzenie w kulturze Chorwacji. Jej przekład na język polski ujawnił większość problematycznych aspektów tłumaczenia metodą napisową oraz ogrom różnic dzielących z pozoru bliskie kultury słowiańskie – chorwacką i polską.

After more than 100 years since the birth of cinema, audiovisual translation issue has grown considerably. This type of translation has become an important branch of the translation sector and, although many of us are not aware of it, it is extremely difficult type of translation, and this thesis demonstrates it. In this study particularly problematic issues associated with cultural transfer within AVT (subtitle version) are presented, all of them based on my own translation of Croatian film “Kino Lika” by Dalibor Matanić (2008). The thesis is divided into two parts – theoretical and practical. The first one is an introduction to audiovisual translation – it describes its problematic aspects and specific internal differentiation, whilst the second part is an exemplification of majority of the problems which an audiovisual translator faces (with particular emphasis on the specifics of the Croatian-Polish translation). Respective parts of the source text, problematic from the point of view of AVT, are quoted, as well as suggestions for their Polish translations (with justifications for the decisions made). The thesis was organized this way because the aim of this study was to familiarize the problems of this type of translation basing on specific examples. The transcript of “Kino Lika” has turned out to be great material for this, primarily due to the fact it is firmly embedded in Croatian culture. Its translation into Polish revealed majority of problematic aspects of translation within subtitling method and large amounts of differences between seemingly close Slavic cultures – Croatian and Polish.
