Exchange Traded Funds (ETF) on the Warsaw Stock Exchange

Tematem pracy jest Exchange Traded Funds (ETF) na polskiej Giełdzie Papierów Wartościowych. W pracy zaprezentowano stosunkowo nowe i mało popularne na polskim rynku kapitałowym instrumenty finansowe - fundusze inwestycyjne typu Exchange Traded Funds, kryjące się pod skróconą nazwą „ETF”. Równocześnie omówiono indeksy giełdowe, będące benchmarkiem (wzorcowym portfelem), stanowiącym punkt odniesienia do dokonywania ocen wyników zarządzania aktywami tytułowych Exchange Traded Funds. Dokonano również analizy danych statystycznych i oceny bieżącej sytuacji na GPW w segmencie ETF-ów, diagnozując przyczyny ich małej popularności w Polsce oraz dalsze perspektywy ich rozwoju. Istotne informacje zaprezentowano w formie opisowej, tabelarycznej i graficznej, interpretując dane i formułując wnioski. W części teoretycznej pracy poruszono najistotniejsze zagadnienia dotyczące istoty, znaczenia i tworzenia rynku kapitałowego w Polsce, przypisując szczególne znaczenie Giełdzie Papierów Wartościowych jako instytucji odpowiedzialnej za organizację obrotu papierami wartościowymi. Prezentację Exchange Traded Funds, poprzedzono omówieniem problematyki zbiorowego inwestowania i zasad funkcjonowania funduszy inwestycyjnych w Polsce, z uwzględnieniem funduszy ETF.Pracę finalizuje zakończenie, które zawiera syntezę poruszonych zagadnień i najistotniejsze wnioski płynące z literatury przedmiotu.

The subject of this thesis is Exchange Traded Funds (ETF) on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. The thesis presents the financial instruments that are relatively new and rather unpopular on the Polish capital market: the investment funds known as the Exchange Traded Funds (ETF). Stock market indexes that are the benchmark (ideal portfolio) are also discussed, as they are the reference point for analysing the results of managing ETF assets. Statistical data is analysed and the current situation on the Warsaw Stock Exchange in terms of the ETFs is examined, with a diagnosis of the reasons for the small popularity of ETFs in Poland and the prospects for their development. Substantial information is presented in the descriptive, tabular, and graphic forms, interpreting data and formulating conclusions.In the theoretical part of the thesis, the major issues regarding the nature, importance and establishment of the capital market in Poland are discussed, with particular attention paid to the Warsaw Stock Exchange as the institution responsible for organising the trading in securities. The presentation of the ETFs is preceded with a discussion of the issues related to collective investment and the principles of functioning of investment funds in Poland, including ETFs.The conclusion of the thesis contains a synthesis of the discussed issues and the crucial conclusions following from the analysis of the bibliographical sources.
